heading  Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) plastic surgery is performed by Manhattan Plastic Surgeon to tighten the loose or saggy skin of the abdomen (tummy) and repair the weak muscles of the abdominal wall.

For patients who have an excess of abdominal skin and loose abdominal muscles, an abdominoplasty plastic surgeon, or tummy tuck plastic surgeon, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. Many women opt for the abdominoplasty procedure after having lost weight, after having had children or been pregnant and those with abdominal laxity due to aging. Abdominoplasty is also a good follow-up for those (both mean and women) who have had gastric bypass surgery and have lost massive amounts of weight leaving disproportionate areas of excess skin.

Sometimes the NYC Plastic Surgeon's patient's request a combination with liposuction to smooth the edges, remove excess fat, and improve their contour.

A mini-abdominoplasty is performed by the plastic surgeon when there is localized fullness of the lower abdomen and a less extensive procedure is needed for optimal results

Method: the method of abdominoplasty plastic surgery procedure is performed by the Manhattan, Plastic Surgeon  to tighten the skin of the abdomen by undermining the skin and stretching it. Excessive skin and fat is then removed. Stretch marks below the level of the belly button are removed along with full thickness skin and fat down to the abdominal muscles. The abdominal muscles are sewn tightly together in the midline to strengthen the abdominal wall and accent the waistline.  The small incision is placed across the lower abdomen. Abdominoplsty (tummy tuck) operation is performed under general anesthetic as an outpatient operation.

Postoperative Care: The recovery period will take at least one to two weeks. Most people are back to work within two to four weeks.

What does "abdominoplasty" mean?
The word means "molding the abdomen" and it's the medical word for " tummy tuck ". There's also a mini-abdominoplasty , a mini tummy tuck, which works only on the abdomen below the belly button.

Why do people have abdominoplasty plastic surgery?

If you've dieted and exercised conscientiously and still cannot tighten the extra skin and fat in your belly, an abdominoplasty will remove it for you. Many women find themselves in this situation after one or more pregnancies, which have stretched the abdominal muscle and skin and left extra fatty tissue

Will there be a scar after an abdominoplasty?
Yes, but it'll be hidden in the bikini area. As time passes it'll fade and become less obvious.

Are the effects permanent?
As long as you do not gain a lot of weight or become pregnant following your surgery, the effects of your abdominoplasty should be very long-lasting.

What are the risks of an abdominoplasty?
After any surgery there are always post-operative conditions to deal with: pain, bruising, swelling, numbness, mobility, etc. These difficulties are temporary and resolve after a few weeks.
