Eyelid
Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
David P. Rapaport, MD, FACS is a Board
Certified Plastic Surgeon in private practice in Manhattan, New
York. The NYC Plastic Surgeon performs Eyelid Surgery also
known as Blepharoplasty on-site in his fully accredited surgical
suite in Manhattan, New York as an out-patient procedure.
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is performed by the NYC Plastic
Surgeon to reduce the wrinkling and/or bulging of eyelid tissue.
Not all patients need to have both excess skin and excess fat
(bags under the eyes) removed. In many cases only one or the
other procedure is performed by the Manhattan Plastic Surgeon.
Every wrinkle and fold of skin around the eyes cannot be
removed. Most recently, there have been innovations in eye
surgery to preserve and redistribute fat around the eyes rather
than just to remove it. This results in less of a hollow, "done"
appearance.
During your eyelid surgery / blepharoplasty plastic surgery consultation
the Manhattan plastic surgeon will examine you and discuss
recommendations for the best type of procedure and incision
placement to yield the best results. The procedure is usually
done as an outpatient procedure at the NYC Plastic Surgeons
private surgical suite, under local anesthesia and sedation
administered by a physician anesthesiologist to minimize
discomfort during the procedure. Most patients have very little
pain following the surgery because long-acting local anesthetic
is administered as part of the procedure.
The Eyelid Surgery / Blepharoplasty Procedure: The
plastic surgery takes approximately one to two hours be completed
by the plastic surgeon.
What To Expect After Surgery: There is usually little pain
associated with this type of plastic surgery. Swelling, bruising
and of the eyelids varies with each patient and is usually
slight. Most of the swelling and bruising is gone within five to
ten days, but it is not unusual for the discoloration to last
longer.
Resumption of Physical Activities: Work and social
activities are usually curtailed for a period of three to ten
days following the eylelid surgery. Driving may be resumed in
two to three days. Most people are back to work after a
long weekend. Working out may be resumed after two to six weeks.
